Swedish and Ukrainian Medical Product Agencies sign an agreement

The Directors-General of the Swedish and Ukrainian Medical Products Agencies have signed a cooperation agreement.

Last spring, a number of medicine deliveries were shipped from Sweden to support Ukraine in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against the country. MSB coordinated the deliveries in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies and wholesale distributors.

The Swedish Medical Products Agency and its counterpart in Ukraine have now signed a cooperation agreement with the aim of helping Ukraine to maintain a secure supply of medicines and medical devices during the war.

“It is vital that we continue to show our support and do everything we can. The Swedish Medical Products Agency can make a difference for Ukraine in both the short and long term. Through the cooperation agreement, we support Ukraine in strengthening and developing the regulatory framework for drug approvals and supervision of medical devices. In doing so, we hope to contribute to Ukraine’s access to safe and effective medicines and medical devices,” says Björn Eriksson, Director General of the Swedish Medical Products Agency, in a press release.

“This agreement is an opportunity for Ukraine to align its pharmaceutical legislation with the European one. It is also an opportunity for our experts to exchange knowledge and experience in regulatory work, which will greatly benefit the work ahead,” said Mykhaylo Babenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Medical Products Agency.
