The US is leaving the WHO

The newly installed US President, Donald Trump, has issued an executive order for the US to leave the World Health Organization, WHO.

"Oooh, that's a big one," Donald Trump said when he signed a decree stipulating that the US would leave the WHO, reports BBC.

Donald Trump has long been critical of the WHO, and already during his previous term of office, he decided that the US would leave the organization. That decision was later revoked by the former president Joe Biden.

In the document that he has now signed, he justifies the decision by stating, among other things, that he believes that the WHO mishandled the Covid pandemic. The executive order also states that the US pays a disproportionate amount to the WHO.

"China, with a population of 1.4 billion, has 300 percent of the population of the United States, yet contributes nearly 90 percent less to the WHO," it says.

The executive order on the WHO was signed along with a number of other decrees already during Donald Trump's first day as re-elected president.
