Mathematician new dean at DTU
On January 1st the Technical University of Denmark, DTU, got a new dean, recruited from the department of Mathematics.
He came to DTU after his studies in mathematics and physics at the University of Copenhagen. His career at the university took a break between 1981 and 1982, when Martin Philip Bendsøe worked at the Brown University in Providence in the US. Back in Denmark, he could add the titel of licentiate technician, because of his dissertation ”Optimization of plates”.
Mainly, he works in the area of design optimization, where computer based methods are developed for the rationael optimization of structures and devices. For example, he is involved in a project that develops specialized algorithms for optimization of composite structures for aeronautics applications.
