Will the industry follow the economic revival?

Welcome to the eleventh Biotech Forum + Scanlab Fair!
We are really looking forward to meeting all of you on the fair floor and are convinced that the partnering meeting held at the Biotech Forum part will be a great success!

How will the laboratory industry react to the economic revival we are seeing now? The Swedish economy is, when writing this, doing really well. The gross national product grew 4.6 per cent in the second quarter compared to the same period last year. When reading Morten Dyrner’s, Managing Director of Holmes & Halby and treasurer of Dadif, chronicle on page 24, one can wonder whether the Scandinavian laboratory market will recover as fast as Scandinavian economies.

Danish pharmaceutical companies have been cautious about investing in new equipment. The question is – of course – how long will this cautiousness continue? The increased business from academia (read our story on page 12) has leveled out weak purchases from the industry. It is likely that the increased purchasing force will not be permanent. This means that purchasing recovery from the pharmaceutical industry is crucial.

As the Swedish economy is recovering faster than the Danish, we may see a better situation for Swedish laboratory vendors than for Danish.
