Take off for this year's fair

More visitors than previously were preregistered when Scanlab and Biotech Forum opened today. But the future of the exhibitions and their design is uncertain.
Although both biotechnology and laboratory industry has had a setback recently due to the financial crisis, the interest for Scanlab & Biotech Forum semms to be stable, looking at the participation numbers. When the doors were opened to the Bella Center this morning, just over 5000 visitors were preregistered to the fair. It is 12 percent more than in 2008 when the fair was held in Denmark last time. Approximately 140 laboratory companies are presented in the exhibition hall and 75 companies have booked a total of 300 partnering meetings.

“We have a tighter show this year in a smaller area but with as many visitors as before. We also have a good and well-attended seminar program on biotechnology side"says Kim Lindhe, Event Manager at Stockholm International Fairs, the organizer.

The proportion of visitors and exhibitors from the biotechnology companies have become fewer and fewer since the biotech bubble burst. The majority of both exhibitors and visitors are now from the laboratory sector. And the design of the fairs remains an open question.

“There is a great need for this kind of forum and we want to keep Biotech Forum, but not in the form that is today” says Kim Lindhe.

“Scanlab, which is Bella Center's brand is strong in Denmark and will be held here every two years. How a possible laboratory trade show will look like in Sweden is to be seen"says Kim Lindhe.
